Nairobi is the only city in the world where you can end a corporate meeting at 4 PM and be watching lions stalk their prey by 5 PM. The drive through Nairobi National Park just before dusk is nothing short of magical.
As the golden hour hit, the tall grass turned a vivid, burnt orange. The iconic city skyline loomed in the background, a stark contrast to the massive, ancient rhinos grazing just a few hundred yards from our jeep. This park isn't a zoo; it's a living, breathing ecosystem clinging to the edge of a rapidly expanding metropolis.
It was getting late when we spotted them—a pride of lions lounging near a thicket, their cubs playing in the fading light. As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in violent shades of pink and purple, the distant roar of a male lion vibrated through the floorboards of our car.
There is a profound grounding effect to being this close to raw nature while still within eyesight of skyscrapers. It’s a beautifully complex harmony.
